I plan on creating the opening to a Thriller film and so, in this blog, I plan on uploading a series of trailers and/or video clips from other Thriller films that I find could help me in making the opening of my film. I will also be analysing the trailers/film clips mentioning angles, shots etc.
Black Swan (2010)
This film is only coming out this year and, although I have only seen the trailers, I can tell that this film can help and guide me in the making of my film. For example, a series of close ups are used, especially in the dance studio and towards the end, I have stated that I plan on using a lot of close ups and extreme close up during my opening. This is one of the classic conventions of a Thriller. Another thing that this trailer does, it has a soundtrack that plays an important part of the trailer (example: the build up to the protagonist pulling the thorn/feather out of her back). I don't plan on using a powerful soundtrack in the opening of the film however I think that the use of the voice over monologue may deliver the tension that I want.
Monsters (2010)
The reason I am drawn to the making and trailer of this film is that this is an Independent film and only has two well known actors while the rest of the cast are locals from the place they filmed. I have previously stated that, if this film was made, I would like it to be an Independent film. The fact that this film inclines that something other that human is involved also links back to my idea of Vampires being the main creatures in my film. The trailer hear almost has little to no dialogue involved, just purely moments from news broadcasts etc. I plan on there being any dialogue in my film opening, at least nothing directly from characters, I plan on using the voice over monolgue because I like the quirk it gives to films, such films Fight Club and The Social Network.
